Communities Creating Opportunity exists to discover, develop and direct the power of people to build a better quality of life for their families. CCO builds community and revitalizes democracy. Over the last four months, CCO has engaged in a statewide Economic Dignity campaign gathering signatures for two ballot initiatives: one to cap the interest rates on payday loans and another to raise the minimum wage. Beginning in May, CCO will begin the next phase of this Economic Dignity campaign with intense civic engagement efforts to make sure that our communities are educated, registered, and prepared to vote on these issues in November.

CCO is a member of the PICO National Network, a grassroots, faith-based community organization made up of 52 federations and 10 State-wide networks. PICO seeks to transform communities, states and our nation by training grassroots leaders to advocate on their own behalf on a pro-family economic agenda. PICO is organizing a strategic faith voice across this country that advocates on racial and economic justice issues such as health care, housing, and revenue.

The Economic Dignity Fellowship is a prestigious 6-month intensive field and training program for promising community leaders interested in campaign work and community organizing. Fellows will be chosen to work full- or part-time in low income and working class neighborhoods and suburbs to mobilize unlikely and underrepresented faith voters and community minded faith voters to get them to the polls for the 2012 General Election. Each Fellow will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive voter engagement program that includes voter education, voter registration, get-out-the-vote efforts, and other related activities. Fellows will be working closely with one or more religious congregation.

CCO’s Economic Dignity Fellowship is a strictly non-partisan effort and will not involve endorsing or opposing candidates for public office.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Identify and recruit volunteers based on assigned field plan
2. Provide training and development to paid and volunteer canvassers to execute successful voter registration, get-out-the-vote, and other civic engagement efforts in neighborhoods and within congregations
3. Develop relationships with congregations and community organizations to achieve program goals
4. Develop relationships with County Clerks and Boards of Elections
5. Register voters directly
6. Set up and monitor phone banking and door-to-door canvassing operations
7. Manage and hold accountable volunteers and participating clergy
8. Daily Door-to-door canvassing and/or phone banking assignments

1. Experience with volunteer recruitment and management
2. Experience working in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
3. A track record of setting and meeting goals
4. Experience working with low income and underrepresented communities

Compensation: Fellows will receive a competitive stipend and the best on-the-ground training they can receive.
Hours: These positions involve significant evening and weekend hours and require flexibility.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Vice Chancellor of Marketing and Communications is looking for a Manager of Marketing & Media Services to direct the activities of the marketing and communications team at the School of Medicine.  This manager will oversee the team produces communication and marketing materials in print and online for the School of Medicine and its clinical departments. These services also include the design and maintenance of multiple School of Medicine related websites including General Medical Education. The ideal candidate will demonstrate significant supervisory experience in leading creative teams to collaboratively produce first-rate content for communications and marketing needs, on time and on budget.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Develop, plan, direct, implement and evaluate a schoolwide strategic communications and marketing plan anchored in the vision and goals of the School of Medicine and in support of overall UMKC marketing and communications goals.
• Provide oversight and leadership to the professional entities within School of Medicine in the development of official websites, publications, view books, electronic catalogs and other materials.
• Collaborate with University Communications and other campus counterparts – the Director of Media Relations and Marketing Manager, among others — on communications, advertising and promotions in print, broadcast and digital outlets to further School of Medicine initiatives.
• Partner with the University Communications brand manager to ensure communications materials meet branding guidelines.
• Mediate and resolve disputes regarding web production deadlines or design.  Determine web priorities based on School of Medicine/departmental priorities.
• Establish database of School of Medicine history, accomplishments, and initiatives to use in consistent communication messages.
• Supervise a team of editors, photographers, web administrators and a graphic designer in the production of communications materials, including interviewing, selecting, training, evaluating and disciplining. Assist all staff in solving production problems.
• Collaborate with Clinical Department Chairs to produce communications materials and departmental websites.
• Develop and administer department budget to include financial and productivity reporting.
• Develop staff through routine staff meeting, regular one-on-one meetings and training. Oversee training of staff to ensure compliance with University policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, public relations or related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and ability can be acquired is necessary.
