Job Description

Responsible for providing a variety of Scheduling, Check In and Check Out, and Daily Deposit duties, including cross training with other PSR duties. May be requested to interpret (Spanish) during a patient office visit. May also assist with referral coordination and/or case management follow-up as directed.

Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Bilingual fluency, English/Spanish
• One year of work experience involving public contact and customer service
• Experience in a team-oriented atmosphere
• Experience with computer software packages, including word processing, scheduling, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to be self-directed and proactive on clinic flow trouble-shooting

Preferred Qualifications
• Certification or verifiable training in medical interpretation
• Prior experience in the safety net health care environment
• BLS certified
• Prior use of electronic chronic disease management system or EMR
• Experience taking vital signs, taking patient history, and/or phlebotomy

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

  • Schedules and registers patients, working closely with others in the PSR role.
  • Schedules patient appointments in computer, either via telephone or in person.
  • Sends appropriate informational materials to patients, as necessary.
  • Gathers appropriate demographic information on new patients to create an appointment and to allow patient to be contacted.
  • Verifies assigned Primary Care Provider ( PCP ) with patients and appropriately schedules patient with assigned PCP to insure continuity of care.
  • Insures all patients affected by changes in the schedule are contacted regarding the change in a timely manner.
  • Requests and verifies patient’s insurance plan name to insure KUHP and the department providers have existing managed care contracts and, if no managed care insurance contract exists, communicates to the patient their potential personal payment obligations.

Description of Job Duty

  • Responsible for patient arrival and check out processing, providing cross coverage with other PSR staff.
  • Completes daily, advance preparation of clinic paperwork, including consent to treat, NPP , etc.
  • Upon patient arrival, explains appropriate insurance and consent, NPP , and other required forms and obtains patient signatures, as needed.
  • Works with the patient to get all paperwork filled out when they are new and coming into the clinic for their initial visit.
  • Enters patient demographic and insurance data into the electronic medical record systems as described in KUHP Business Procedures.
  • Assesses patient eligibility for sliding fee scale, and assigns fee scale.
  • Coordinates all SFS (Sliding Fee Scale) renewal paperwork with the patient on an annual basis.
  • Collects service fee (i.e. co-payments, minimum required payment, full payment, and/or account balance due payment), properly records transaction and provides patient a receipt, in accordance with KUHP operational and financial policies and procedures.
  • Develops patient payment plans, as needed.
  • Performs patient out-processing services: e.g. schedules patient return appointments, consults and labs, and makes ancillary appointments as directed by provider or nurse.

  • Attends meetings and participates in committees as required.
